Housing that answers to its community
Lokel is not a company with shareholders. It is a community institution governed by the people who live, work, and invest in it. Residents vote. Landlords participate. Contractors have a voice.
Who makes up the community
Every member has a stake and a vote. The community governs itself through transparent, democratic proposals.
Verified residents vote on proposals that affect their building and neighborhood after 30 days of residency.
Property owners with active listings participate in budget and policy decisions that affect the network.
Contractors who have completed 3 or more jobs earn a vote and shape maintenance standards for the community.
Elected members who implement day-to-day decisions. They can be recalled by community vote at any time.
How participation works
Membership isn't passive. The platform is built around the tools members need to stay informed, deliberate, and decide together.
Governance proposals
Any verified member can draft a proposal — rent policies, maintenance budgets, new properties, community programs. Each proposal goes through a 7-day discussion period followed by a 3-day vote.
Community forums
Members communicate through the Lokel platform's forums and announcement channels, keeping conversations tied to the community rather than scattered across third-party apps.
Steward elections
Stewards are elected quarterly by community vote. Any voting member can nominate themselves or another member. Terms last one year.
Operator accountability
Renaissance Management operates under a 10-year agreement with DAO-visible performance standards. The community can review all metrics in the transparency dashboard.
How we’re organized
Lokel has three layers of accountability, each with defined roles and checks on power:
- Stewards — Elected community members who implement day-to-day decisions. They can be recalled by member vote at any time.
- Renaissance Management — The property management operator working under a 10-year agreement with DAO-visible performance standards, auditable by any member.
- Members — Residents, landlords, and contractors who vote on proposals and hold stewards accountable through transparent governance.
Founding steward elections will be held once the governance pilot begins. Until then, the platform operates in read-only transparency mode.
